7 Reasons Why Meditation Can Solve Most of Your Problems

(Average Reading Time: 4 mins)

Recently, I completed four years of daily meditation without missing a day. It’s not a milestone, but I thought of sharing this journey and my experience so far with you all.

This isn’t a guide or a prescription; if anything, it is a reflection. And while everyone’s journey with spirituality is unique, I hope some of these thoughts resonate with you.

Below are seven interpretations of how meditation has benefited me in life.

#1 – Realization

Meditation helped me realize what truly matters. It helped me reduce noise and identify things that meant the most – the activities I enjoy or the values I stand by.

Keep meditation aside for a second, the mere act of sitting in silence – just by yourself is a different experience. It makes you aware of the overlooked parts of life.

If you feel lost in life, start with meditation – it will gently guide you to where you are meant to go. Sometimes, the deepest realizations come in the quietest moments.

#2 – Anchor

When life gets chaotic – as it does for everyone sooner or later – having a regular meditation practice acts as an anchor. It keeps you sane during insane times and grounded in moments of success.

Meditation subconsciously trains your mind that regardless of what is happening around you – there is one practice in life that is steady. A practice that isn’t impacted by outside forces.

Personally, I feel there should be one practice in life that has stood the test of time and stayed with you. A practice that acts as an anchor, protects you from drifting aimlessly, living life on auto-pilot.

#3 – Clarity

Meditation cleared the fog in my thinking. It helped me become better at noticing patterns, catching biases, and thinking more independently.

It helped me look at things from a neutral perspective. A neutral perspective may not be always accurate, but it will save you from getting influenced by someone else’s viewpoint.

#4 – Listening

Listening is an underrated skill. We hear words but not necessarily pay attention to what’s being conveyed. The mere activity of sitting in silence has helped my listening. And listening is not just sound, it is also listening to your inner voice, to unsaid voices, pauses and hesitations.

Once you become fluent is listening to unsaid voices, you will realize how much is said without being said. Sometimes, silence tells you more than words.

#5 – Intuition

It’s kind of hard to explain this but meditation makes your intuition, or say your sense of prediction a bit strong. Maybe it’s energy. Maybe it’s your interpretation. But, with time, you’d notice your ability to pick up on subtleties – reading between the lines, or behind the words. It also trains your mind to unlock packets of information from past that are hidden deep in your subconscious and interpret situations quicker.

#6 – Memory

Personally, meditation has immensely helped me sharpen my memory. I’ve forgotten everything from small errands to important documents in the past, but now I remember far more things than before. It helps recall things more easily.

#7 – Detachment

For me, detachment isn’t indifference – it’s knowing my role in a particular situation, or in someone’s life and being aware of the boundaries. I believe there should be a layer of separation in every equation in life… a layer of detachment that helps you keep things clean and healthy.

Meditation makes you more aware of this invisible line. It makes your response to situations considerate and expectations more realistic. You won’t sweat the petty stuff and letting go will feel peaceful rather than a tough decision.

Closing remarks

In my opinion, meditation is one skill that will compliment everything you do. Regardless of whether you want to achieve big goals or live a simple life, meditation will add soul to your desire and make it more meaningful. Trust me – it won’t happen overnight, or over a week or even over a month… let it brew, selflessly. Once you start enjoying silence, everything will start making sense.

Down here I’m sharing links to some audios I listen to while meditating. There are many apps but I like to keep it simple and put some soft background music.
